FAQ
General Questions
What conditions do you treat?
We treat a wide range of psychiatric and psychological conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, OCD, schizophrenia, trauma and PTSD, and life changes such as divorce, loss, or job transitions. If you’re not sure whether we can help with your specific concern, just reach out — we’re happy to talk it through.
Who do you treat? What ages do you see?
We have specialists available to treat children (ages 5 and up), adolescents, adults, and seniors. Whether it’s a child struggling in school, an adult navigating a life change, or a senior whose mental health is affecting the whole family — we meet you where you are.
Can you prescribe medication?
Yes. As experts in our field, we are able to prescribe and manage medication when appropriate. Medication is just one tool we may use as part of your overall treatment plan — we’ll always discuss the options with you so you can make an informed decision.
Do you provide therapy or counseling?
Our focus is on psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management. While our appointments are longer and involve deep listening, we are not a therapy or counseling practice. That said, we work collaboratively with your therapist or counselor to ensure your care is coordinated and comprehensive.
What if I’m not sure what I need?
That’s completely okay — and more common than you’d think. You don’t need a diagnosis or a referral to reach out. Speak to your Care Navigator, and we’ll help you figure out the right next step. No judgment, no pressure.
Do you offer screening assessments?
Yes. We offer screening questionnaires for conditions like ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum, depression, eating disorders, OCD, and more. These quick assessments can help you understand your symptoms and take the first step toward getting the care you need.

Our physicians are experts, our appointments are longer, and your Care Navigator ensures every step of the process is seamless.
What does “concierge” mean?
Concierge means concierge-level service, covered by your insurance. No more long waits — we’ll get you an appointment within days. No more difficult doctors — we provide longer appointments, listen deeply, and create a care plan personalized for you. No more confusing instructions — your Care Navigator will make sure you have everything you need. At Ascent Psychiatry, your experience matters just as much as your treatment.

What makes Ascent Psychiatry different from other practices?
We call it the Ascent Difference. It comes down to five things: accessible care (appointments within a week, phone calls returned within 24 hours), compassion (longer appointments with no rush), world-class physicians (trained at top institutions, practicing cutting-edge medicine), a collaborative approach (we work with your therapist, primary doctor, and loved ones), and empowerment (we deliver hope, healing, and health in a stigma-free environment).
What is a Care Navigator?
Your Care Navigator is your personal point of contact at Ascent Psychiatry. They help you understand your options, coordinate your scheduling, handle logistics from testing to follow-up, and make sure you have everything you need at every step. Think of them as your guide through the entire care process.
Where is Ascent Psychiatry located?
Ascent Psychiatry is a fully virtual practice — all appointments take place online. Currently, we can see patients located in Pennsylvania. We are expanding quickly, so if you live outside PA, check back again soon!
Appointments & Scheduling
How soon can I get an appointment?
Your first appointment can be within a week, sometimes within days. We know that when you’re ready to seek help, waiting months isn’t acceptable. Reach out to your Care Navigator to get started.
How do virtual appointments work?
All of our appointments take place over secure, HIPAA-compliant video. You can meet with your psychiatrist from the comfort of your home, your office, or wherever you feel most at ease. All you need is a phone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your first visit will be a longer, comprehensive evaluation where we take the time to understand you — your history, your concerns, and your goals. There’s no rush. We’ll work together to build a treatment plan that feels right for you.
How long are appointments?
Our appointments are longer than what you may be used to at other practices. We believe that good care takes time, and we never rush. Your initial evaluation is comprehensive, and follow-up visits are designed to give you the space to be heard.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We understand that life happens. Please contact your Care Navigator as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. For full details on our cancellation and rescheduling terms, please visit our Policy page on our website.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
We strive to be accessible when you need us. Please speak with your Care Navigator about available appointment times, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your schedule.
Insurance & Billing
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we do. Refer to our insurance page.
Which plans do you accept?
Our plans can be found here.
What will I pay?
You will pay your plan’s copay, coinsurance, or deductible, as set by your insurance company. Your Care Navigator will explain your expected costs before your first appointment. Copays are collected at the time of your visit, and any remaining balance is billed after your insurance processes the claim.
What if my plan isn’t listed?
At this time we can only see patients covered by the companies listed. We are adding plans, so please check back.
Do you accept Medicare?
Yes. We accept traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans. If you have a Medicare supplement (Medigap) plan, it typically pays after Medicare. Your Care Navigator will verify your benefits before your first visit.
Do you accept Medicaid or Tricare?
Not at this time.
Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
Most plans do not require one for psychiatric care. Some HMO and EPO plans require a referral from your primary care doctor. Your Care Navigator will check this for you during benefit verification.
Are any services not covered?
A few services, such as completing forms or letters, may not be covered by your plan. We will always tell you about any cost in advance, and we will never charge you without your approval.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. You can use an HSA or FSA card for copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Privacy & Safety
Is my information private and secure?
Absolutely. All of our virtual appointments are conducted over a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Your personal health information is protected with the same level of security you would expect from any healthcare provider, and we take your privacy very seriously.
Will my employer or school know I’m seeing a psychiatrist?
No. Your care with us is confidential. We do not share your information with employers, schools, or anyone else without your explicit written consent, except where required by law.
What should I do in a mental health emergency?
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. Ascent Psychiatry is not an emergency or crisis service, but we are here to support your ongoing mental health care.
Can my family or other doctors be involved in my care?
Absolutely — with your permission. We believe in a collaborative approach. We’re happy to work with your therapist, primary care doctor, loved ones, or any other member of your care team to ensure everyone is aligned. For children and adolescents, we work closely with parents and guardians as part of the treatment process.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. Reach out to your Care Navigator by phone or through our website. We’ll help make sure we’re a good fit, answer any questions you have, and then book your first appointment. That’s it — no complicated intake process, no weeks of waiting. Have your insurance card ready so we can verify your coverage.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No referral is needed to contact us. Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care doctor before a specialist visit; your Care Navigator will check this for you.
What if I’ve had bad experiences with psychiatrists before?
We hear this more often than you might expect, and we’re sorry you went through that. At Ascent Psychiatry, we do things differently. Our physicians listen deeply, never rush, and treat you as a whole person — not just a diagnosis. We invite you to experience the Ascent Difference and see how care should feel.
I’m not sure if what I’m going through is “bad enough” to see a psychiatrist. Should I still reach out?
Yes, absolutely. You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve support. Many of our patients felt the same way before reaching out, and they’re glad they did. If something doesn’t feel right, that’s reason enough. We’re here for you.
Can I reach out just to ask a question before committing?
Of course. Speak to your Care Navigator — they’re happy to answer your questions and help you decide if Ascent Psychiatry is the right fit. There’s no obligation and no pressure.
I live outside of Pennsylvania. Can you still see me?
At this time, we can only see patients located in Pennsylvania. However, we are expanding quickly. If you live outside PA, please check back soon — your state may be next!
Still have questions?
Speak to your Care Navigator — we’re here to help.
